About Gleann Gardens

A Cork studio for gardens shaped by Irish rain and coastal light

Rooted on the South Mall

Gleann Gardens began as a small practice focused on one problem: city gardens in Cork that looked fine on paper but flooded in winter or baked in unexpected summer heat pockets. We combine planting knowledge with practical layout—drainage falls, gravel choices, and hedge screens that work year-round.

Our studio at 14 South Mall sits between the Lee and the Georgian terraces of the city centre. From here we plan outdoor spaces across Cork city and suburbs—from Sunday's Well walled gardens to compact courtyards off Oliver Plunkett Street.

What guides our work

  • Rain-aware levels and permeable surfaces
  • Planting suited to mild, wet Irish winters
  • Gravel courtyards that drain within hours
  • Native and naturalised hedge screens
  • Layouts that respect narrow urban plots

Designed for Cork's climate

Atlantic weather means generous rainfall, moderate frost, and salt-laced winds near the harbour. We select plants that tolerate wet roots in winter, specify raised beds where clay holds water, and position seating where afternoon sun actually reaches in spring.
